Shampoo and Conditioner Bar

I was a hairstylist for 9 years and have curly hair so am very picky. I have tried so many natural shampoos and to my surprise, shampoo bars were the best by far AND they’re zero waste! HiBar and Unwrapped Life are the best I have tried. They lather up great, unlike many liquid natural shampoos. Make sure to get the right one for your hair type!

Tip: Remember to focus on your scalp when you shampoo and your ends when you condition. You can rub the bar directly on your scalp. There is no need to scrub your ends with shampoo (unless you have a lot of product buildup.) Likewise, conditioning your scalp is unnecessary and can weigh fine hair down. For thick hair, part your hair in a few sections and rub the bar directly onto your scalp to shampoo!

body

bar soap

I have always preferred bar soap over body wash and it is zero-waste. If you are someone who prefers body wash, check out Desert Essence or Little Barn Apothecary. I try to buy handmade soap locally (as long as its only naturally scented with no questionable ingredients) and have recently been making my own! Once I perfect my recipe, I will share it here.

meow meow tweet deodorant

This is my favorite deodorant for sensitive skin! If you can use the stronger ones with baking soda, by all means do it! But, if you have had irritation from natural deodorants, this will be your new favorite. It also comes in stick form but I honestly prefer the jar.

skincare

Easy does it cleanser

This is a great cleanser by One Love Organics. Their products are very clean and work great! They make other cleansers too that are worth checking out but this is the only one I’ve used!

ursa major fortifying face balm

This is a great lightweight moisturizer to calm and hydrate your skin. I love the fresh, botanical smell!

vitamin c serum

This Vitamin C serum by One Love Organics is phenomenal. This is my favorite skincare product I own! It’s $75 but worth every penny and lasts a really long time. It really makes your skin glow so I use it any time I’m not wearing makeup or just when I need a pick me up!

botanical e eye balm

From One Love Organics: “A radiance complex of eyebright, gotu kola and rooibos tea helps to tone and refresh for a more youthful and revitalized appearance. Enriched with a powerful blend of Botanical E, shea butter, pomegranate and sea kelp, this unique masque-like balm can be used alone or layered over top of other eye creams or serums to lock in moisture and active ingredients.”

maya chia the great cleanse

Maya Chia is a great company and they are local to Charleston, SC. The Great Cleanse is a cleanser to gently dissolve makeup and remove impurities while restoring moisture. It contains supercritical chia oil and natural botanicals such as lavender, making this product perfect for your nightly routine!

Wellnesse whitening toothpaste

From Wellnesse: “Instead of fluoride, our formula contains green tea leaf extract, which is loaded with antioxidants. Plus, a phytochemical in green tea is shown to fight bacteria that leads to tooth decay. We combined this phytochemical with hydroxyapatite (a naturally-occurring mineral and main component of tooth enamel) to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities.” The tubes are made from bioplastics sourced from sugarcane and are compostable. A great, non-toxic toothpaste!

*Flouride is a neurotoxin and not necessary for oral health. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is what makes most shampoos and soaps sudsy. It’s what makes orange juice taste funny after brushing your teeth and is something I like to avoid. (1)

Nails

Ela & Mila nail polish remover and Nail Polish

The best and least toxic brand (that works) I have found for nail polish and remover! You can’t even tell the difference it works so well! And the remover doesn’t stink AT ALL.
