CLEANING PRODUCTS THAT ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

(AND ACTUALLY WORK)

Everyday cleaning

MELIORA ALL PURPOSE HOME CLEANER

This is my go to all purpose cleaner. Meliora is a very sustainable company. They are a Certified B Corp which means they use business as a force for good. It comes in a glass bottle and you can get refills which are zero waste, you just combine the refill tab with warm water and shake it. Keep a refill on hand and you’ll never run out of cleaner! I add essential oils to this for a natural fragrance.

Everyone Hand Soap

This is an affordable non-toxic hand soap for those who don’t want to make their own or who are used to the fragrance of traditional soaps! It does come in a plastic bottle.

Ecover Zero Dishwasher Pods

This is the only dishwasher detergent that doesn’t leave spots on my glasses! And it’s non-toxic. It comes either as dishwasher tablets or a powder. Highly recommend.

Meliora Dish Soap Bar

I really love this dish soap bar. It has a high lather and makes everything squeaky clean! No plastic bottles and I keep it on a little wooden soap dish that looks like a mini pallet! So cute. See below for what I recommend for a more “normal” liquid dish soap!

Laundry Detergent

Meliora makes a laundry powder and oxygen brightener that work really well! If you are looking for a more “normal” liquid detergent with a scent, check out Rebel Green.

Castile Soap

I use castile soap for SO much cleaning! I used to use vinegar for everything and it worked great but one day a close friend came over and told me my house always smells like vinegar and that was enough for me to find an alternative for daily cleaning… I still use vinegar for deeper cleaning but soap for normal stuff.

Castile soap works great with a strong scrub brush for showers, toilets, and tubs. If I need even more scrubbing power, I use Meliora’s scrub powder.

Inexpensive DIY

DIY Vinegar All Purpose Cleaner:

Fill a spray bottle 1/3 of the way with vinegar. Add filtered water until full and then essential oils for scent. OR: Soak orange peels in vinegar for 2-3 weeks and then strain and combine 1/2 and 1/2 with water in a spray bottle for an orange infused cleaner!

DIY Castile Soap All Purpose Cleaner:

2 Tbsp of Castile soap to 2 cups of filtered water. Add essential oils for scent.

Easy DIY Hand Soap

Add 1oz Dr Bronners castile soap to a foaming soap dispenser. Add 9oz of filtered water and 1oz of oil (olive oil, avocado oil, walnut oil, etc). Add Essential oils of choice. Shake every now and then if it separates. (Recipe here)

DIY Castile Soap Toilet Cleaner:

Pre-dilute 1/2 cup of Castile soap to 2 cups of water. Add essential oils of choice. Spray toilet and then sprinkle baking soda on toilet brush before scrubbing. Scrub and let sit a few minutes before flushing.

Note: Dark Glass Bottles are recommended for anything containing essential oils.

Deeper Cleaning

Laundry Deep Clean

  1. Grovia Mighty Bubbles

This is meant for cloth diapers (that’s how I found it) but I use it on clothes that are stained or just dingy looking. This is not a detergent, it is meant to be used on clean clothes or diapers to remove buildup. It removes a lot of stains and brightens everything AND there are no questionable ingredients!

  2. Buncha Farmers Stain Stick

The best natural stain stick and it is basically just super concentrated soap! Meliora makes one that is very similar too!

  3. THE SUN!

Don’t underestimate the bleaching power of the sun. I didn’t believe it until I saw it. Pull items directly from the wash and place outside in direct sunlight and it is magic. This has worked for white clothes and cloth diapers for me. For colored clothes, I use the stain stick!

Dishes

  1. Dapple Dish Soap

This is amazing for getting any milk residue off of baby bottles and for those extra greasy pans! It is the closest product to those who are looking for a comparable dish soap to Dawn. It does contain some preservatives but they are low on the toxicity/environmental toxicity scale.

  2. Spaghetti Scrubber

This scrubber is made out of peach pits! It is abrasive like a sandpaper that is safe for dishes and works really well for any hard to clean pans. We have been using these for years and absolutely love them for those hard to clean pans!

Cleaning Tools

  1. Steam Mop

I use this steam mop to clean and disinfect my floors even when I have a baby crawling all over the floor and putting EVERYTHING into their mouth. I feel comfortable using it on my floors because water isn’t sitting soaking into the floors and you can control the level of steam but do your own research!

  2. Full Circle Replaceable Bottle Brush

This bottle brush comes with replaceable brush heads so when it gets dirty, you don’t have to ditch the whole brush.

  3. Replaceable Dish Brush

This dish brush also has replaceable heads you can buy to reduce your footprint!

  4. Walnut Shell Sponges

Ok in an ideal world, I would have a massive loofah plant growing in my backyard. BUT since that isn’t happening (and my husband doesn’t like using the loofah for dishes), I feel good about these sponges made of walnut shells and they don’t stink like chemicals when you open the package!

  5. Hardcore Scrub Brush

Ok, it’s no secret that deep cleaning with all natural products may require some extra elbow grease. A strong brush makes it a breeze!
